3 Dart Stations Coming to Deep Ellum

by admin  |  November 16th, 2008

The original Deep Ellum industrial area was built on the railroad lines built right though the community. In 2009, the railways will return, this time brining new residents, workers an people from all over the metroplex looking for an easy way to get tot he Deep Ellum nightlife. The southbound Dart Green line will open its first 4 stops in September of next year. 3 of the stops are located in the Deep Ellum area. The expansion allows the neighborhood to be connected to the Dallas area like never before.

First stop: Deep Ellum Station
Deep Ellum Station at Good-Latimer  and Gaston Ave. will allow visitors easy walking access to the Latino Cultural Center and the main Deep Ellum arts and entertainment district. People who live and work in the West side of Deep Ellum will now be walking distance away from access to Downtown, South Dallas, Cityplace, Mockingbird Station, North Dallas, Richardson and Plano. The station features artwork by Julie Cohn.

Heading East: Baylor Medical Center Station
The Baylor Medical Center Station is located at the corner of Hall and Junius Street. This station brings together two divergent groups, Baylor Hospital and Deep Ellum. At Baylor, one might find a doctor or a pastor — someone who takes the pulse of the community each and every day. Deep Ellum represents a different kind of pulse, the celebration of life through art and music. Artist Karen Blessen has united these two perspectives, making the connection between the life experiences of Baylor and the life expressions of Deep Ellum. The result is a station with a pulse all its own. Riders will have waking access to Baylor University Medical Center, Baylor University Dental School, The Tom Landry Fitness Center, Baylor Adult Outpatient Therapy Clinic, Baylor Senior Health Center, Baylor Geriatrics Center, Dallas Theological Seminary and The Ambrose.

Last stop: Fair Park Station
The Fair Park Station is located at the corner of Parry and Exposition Avenue. Obviously, this stop will provide quick access to Fair Park, home of the State Fair. This stop will give walking access to several local restaurants, bars and art galleries that are loved by folks all over the city. Fair Park also contains the largest collection of Art Deco buildings in the world, built for the 1936 Texas Centennial Exposition. Back then, trolleys traveled along Parry in front of the main entrance to the fair. Soon, DART Rail cars will do the same. In creating their vision for this station, Brad & Diana Goldberg — the artists responsible — have paid respect to the rich history of the area as well as the surrounding neighborhoods. Riders will have walking access to The Cotton Bowl, Texas! Music Center, African American Museum, The 500x Gallery, Dallas Aquarium, Dallas Historical Society, Museum of Nature and Science, TI Founders IMAX Theater, Hall of State, Texas Discovery Gardens, Texas Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial, The Women’s Museum and the State Fair of Texas.
